Jay is a KU alum and received is MA in Jewish Communal Service from the Hornstein Program at Brandeis University. Prior to returning to KU, he was the Assistant Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education in Orange County, CA. Locally, Jay has been recognized as KU’s Advisor of the Year and nationally has received Hillel’s prestigious Richard M. Joel Exemplar of Excellence Award. He is passionate about basketball, golf, and the Jayhawks. He lives in Overland Park with his wife and two kids.
Carly Brown, Program Director carly@kuhillel.org
Originally from Chicago, Carly completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in May 2009. After graduating, Carly moved back to Chicago to work for a year in the city as the Communications Coordinator for the Communications and Design team at Laurus Strategies. In June of 2010, Carly moved to Kansas City where she took the position of Program Director at KU Hillel. She is responsible for all programming and marketing for students at KU. Carly is looking forward to getting married June 2012.

Julie is a native of Lawrence, Kansas and has worked at KU Hillel as the Operations Manager for the past seven years. She handles all accounting and facility tasks. Julie enjoys traveling with her husband and is constantly trying to keep up with her active 3 boys.
Malinda Kimmel, MSW Assistant Director for Jewish Student Life malinda@kuhillel.org
Malinda is the Assistant Director for Jewish Student Life where she oversees Hillel’s Engagement strategies, develops leadership as well as oversees many internship programs on campus. Malinda is also involved with much of the grant writing for the organization. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Malinda graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelors in Social work and International study and then received her MSW (Masters in Social Work) focusing on Community and Economic Development from Washington University in St. Louis. She has significant experience in informal Jewish education, community development and community service. Malinda has been working at KU Hillel for three years and is a veteran of the Jewish communal world and has previously worked as a Day Camp Director in Chicago. Malinda and her husband, Jordan are proud parents of Dylan who frequents Hillel in his Rock Chalk gear.
Neal Schuster, Rabbi - Senior Jewish Educator schuster@kuhillel.org
Neal is a native of Seattle, who, after living in Los Angeles and Jerusalem was surprised to discover how much he and his family love living in Kansas. He moved here in 2003 to serve as one of the rabbis at Congregation B’nai Jehudah in Overland Park, and, in 2009, he joined the KU Hillel team as its Senior Jewish Educator, a position in which he gets to engage students in their exploration of life, Judaism and the meaning of it all. As he often tells people, “This is the kind of work I became a rabbi to do.” Neal lives in Overland Park with his wife, three kids and dog Oscar.
