Taglit-Birthright Israel

Registration for KU Hillel's 2013 Winter Taglit-Birthright Israel trip beings in September. Sign up here if you are interested in going on KU Hillel's Birthright Trip.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Who could pass up an extraordinary 10 days traveling through the Jewish homeland - at no cost! KU Hillel takes 40 students each Winter Break in the months of December or January. What better way to see your Israel than with 40 of your KU peers?

To be eligible students must:

  • Be Jewish
  • Be between the ages of 18-26
  • Have never previously been to Israel on a peer-group program
  • Have not lived in Israel past age 12

Israel Leadership Mission (ILM)

Israel Leadership Mission Trip (ILM) is a high-level Winter Break trip to Israel for 12-14 Jewish Student Leader from KU. ILM trip dates are January 3-15, 2012.

To be eligible students must:

  • Have been to Israel previously
  • Demonstrated commitment to student leadership at KU Hillel and Jewish life at KU
  • Commit to serve a leadership role within the KU Jewish community
  • Responsible for conducting a follow-up experience based on their ILM trip  


Priority is given to students who are Sophomores and above. The trip cost is $1,000 which covers a round trip flight from New York to Israel and all ground costs in Israel. Participants are responsible for their domestic flight to New York and any spending money in Israel. ILM is over Winter Break, typically in January.

Alternative Break Trip


KU Hillel offers student-led alternative break opportunities, which are breaks that consist of students giving back and focusing on social service and community service projects. All Alternative Break trips are initiated and created by student leaders and take place during Winter Break and Spring Break each year.

Our past trips have consisted of the following:

  • Big Bend
  • Texas -  trailblazing and clean up of the state park
  • Teach for America
  • New Orleans - Gulf Coast relief
  • Tampa, Florida -  Rebuilding Together site-revitalizing and beautification of building and Home
  • New York City Year - working with youth after school service programs and shelter work
  • Washington D.C. - working within the homeless community at shelters and food banks
